990

990-max

Is the 990 the world's cleanest-burning cooker?

The 990, like all ESSE cookers, combines modern technology with classic ESSE quality and flies the flag for technological and environmental developments.

With three large capacity ovens (which can all maintain different temperatures for ease of use) the 990 offers a huge 112 litre cooking volume. It draws on classic ESSE styling from the 1930s, and blends vintage aesthetics with modern benefits.

The 990 can achieve heat outputs between 2kW and 8kW depending how it is operated and how much fuel is loaded. The stylish firebox features a secondary glass door enabling the flames to be admired while allowing extra heat into the room, and the large cast iron hotplate has different temperature zones for added flexibility.

The 990 heats quickly from cold, has a large log capacity and also incorporates stainless steel towel rail, perfectly weighted, insulated lids over the hotplate and easy-shut door handles.

You can even use the 990's firebox to grill directly over hot embers with cooking smells disappearing up the flue.

The 990 is available with or without a hot water boiler and can also be specified as a solid fuel cooker.

990CH

990-maxThe ESSE 990 CH is a multi-fuel cast iron enamelled cooker that can create mouth-watering meals, provide complete household warmth and ensure piping hot water.

Giving you complete freedom and flexibility, the 990 CH does not require a conversion system to switch between wood or solid fuel.

However, for higher temperatures and less frequent refuelling, ESSE advises that this cooker works best on smokeless fuels such as anthracite. It will run on full output, (radiators, ovens, hotplates and hot water) for around six hours with just one load, or - more practically - around 24 hours on a medium output.

Easily capable of running eight radiators, the ESSE 990 CH allows you to prioritise either the central heating and hot water, or the ovens and hotplate - thanks to a simple-to-use damper.

This lets you direct heat between the cooker and boiler as required, making sure you get the most from every load of your chosen fuel.

Responding automatically to the temperature of the water, the thermostatic control of the 990 CH ensures consistent radiator temperatures.

This cooker is packed with potential to run in a way that is unique to you and your home. It offers superb control and adaptability.

As well as a large dogbone hotplate which is capable of taking six pans, the ESSE 990 CH has two capacious ovens with an impressive combined cooking volume of 80 litres.

Drawing on classic styling from the 1930s, this model blends vintage aesthetics with modern technology.

ESSE proudly pours 159 years of engineering experience into every aspect of its products... and the details make the difference: the 990 CH incorporates easy-shut handles that will even tighten themselves over time, doors that will not swing back to hit other appliances, controls to adjust the draw of the flue and hinges that should never need adjusting or tightening.

A summer running conversion kit is available for the 990 CH.

Ironheart

ironheart-maxThe 'Ironheart' cooking stove is a cooker that burns logs beautifully and a stove that cooks to perfection.

First conceived to mark the 150th anniversary of the company, the inspiration for this product was found in the earliest appliances in the ESSE museum. Small domestic stoves for both cooking and heating. ESSE was amongst the first to introduce the closed stove concept to the British market, and consumers soon recognised the design's advantages over the open fire alternatives, of greatly increased economy and control.

Ironheart takes these attributes to a new level, with a tested efficiency rating at over 82%, and low CO emissions to exceed current standards. Add to this the glass fronted firebox, multi-fuel capability, oven temperature controllability, machined hotplate surface and superbly engineered stainless steel hotplate insulating covers, and you have an appliance traditional only in looks.

Cooking only - Model EW
Essentially the cooking stove makes the most of the two things ESSE does best. An inspired combination of a superb log burning stove and traditional, cast iron range cooker.

And therein lies its charm and appeal… it is equally at home as a stove or as a range cooker.

The firebox has been specifically designed to burn 500mm logs, length ways, which it does in spectacular fashion, providing a splendid view of the flames through a large rectangular glass fire door. As the heat source for the oven and hotplates it has to be highly controllable, which it is, thanks to simple but effective primary and secondary air flow controls, the secondary control providing an airwash which keeps the door glass clear.

The Ironheart can burn multi-fuel and/or wood but for improved woodburning performance, a simple to fit conversion kit is available that will improve control and efficiency when burning logs. The kit comprises of a steel box that replaces the standard grate and ashpan, creating a deeper firebox with no grate. This enables more logs to be loaded and provides a flat base for an ash bed to develop,  which is essential when burning wood.

We do not recommend that the Ironheart  is used as a primary cooking appliance as it is also a stove designed to radiate much more heat (8kW plus) than our range cookers.

Cooking and domestic hotwater – Model EWB
The EWB is equipped with a boiler and is capable of running a single radiator as well as providing domestic hot water.

905 Wood Series WN, WD, W35 (no image available)

A Woodfired cast iron range cooker that is clean and easy to live with.
A log burning range cooker is undoubtedly an environmentally friendly idea but in order for such a product to integrate into any modern household it has to be clean, low maintenance and easy to live with. That was the engineering design brief we set out to fulfil and our new Woodfired cooker is the result. It is as rewarding to cook on as any of our gas or oil models but just how easy is a woodfired cooker to live with? (WN & WD models only)

Superior firebox
At the heart of this cooker is a quite extraordinary firebox. It is designed for continuous use and can easily be kept alight indefinitely, requiring only occasional ash removal. With good quality fuel this should be just once per month. The fuel combustion is so effective that virtually all of the fuel is 'incinerated' cleanly, producing maximum heat and minimal ash as a result. Of course it will perform best using properly seasoned, good quality fire logs but our tests have shown that excellent results can be obtained using wood of any kind and quality such as reclaimed pallet pine. (WN & WD models only)

Control and flexibility
One of the characteristics that set ESSE range cookers apart is their outstanding levels of control. The Woodfired cooker continues this principle and offers a surprising degree of control over it's functions for a wood burning cooker.

Two stage door latch - When lighting the cooker the fire door can be closed, slightly ajar on the second latch setting, allowing an 'air boost' which helps to quickly establish the fire while keeping the door in a safe and secure position, protecting the kitchen from any sparks.

W35 - features a secondary inner door with "peep hole" to check the fire and air control sliders.

Oven temperature control - Cooking temperatures can be easily controlled via a sliding mechanism just inside the firebox door. Simply open to increase the oven temperature and close to maintain the desired setting.

Oven bypass control - A lever on the side of the flue box operates an oven by pass for the flue gases, allowing them to go straight up the flue, instead of around the ovens first. It is used when first lighting the cooker to ensure smoke is immediately drawn up the flue and also to warm the flue so that it begins to draw as quickly as possible. With the ovens heated to the desired temperature it can also be used to boost the hotplate temperature for flash frying or searing without affecting the ovens.

Afterburn2™ technology
The secret to the clean burning of the Woodfired ESSE lies in our unique patent pending Afterburn2™ flame jet system. Because the firebox is effectively a sealed chamber, the fuel can be burnt more efficiently at a slower rate and at a very high temperature. As flames, smoke and ash particles are pulled upwards by the flue, they are forced through a super heated stainless steel matrix where high temperature air is injected, drawing the flames into a precise shape and height, across the entire surface area of the matrix which can reach temperatures in excess of 1000° Fahrenheit. A second burn is then produced just below the incandescent matrix causing any smoke and ash particles to ignite, resulting in a very clean burn. Which in turn helps to keep the flue ways and chimney cleaner and ensures that maximum heat is produced from the fuel. (WN & WD models only)

Extra large log size capacity
We designed the cooker to take large logs, up to 45cm long and 25cm in diameter, so chopping wood is kept to a minimum and refuelling is simple and mess free. If you find it easier to use smaller logs that's okay too. The combination of efficiency and capacity mean that one fuel load can run the cooker for over 12 hours. (WN & WD models only)

NEW Woodfired Cooker Model W-35
W-35is the new woodfired cooker with a thermostatically controlled boiler with a mean boiler output of 33,000 Btu/h. W-35 has an optional summer running kit which reduces the boiler output to 12,000Btu/h to supply domestic hot water and a heat dump radiator.
